Swim-friendly Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro surfaces in new leak

Last year’s Samsung Gear Fit 2 is still one of our favorite fitness trackers. For your money, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better value, what with its AMOLED display, built-in GPS and smart notifications.

However, if you’re a swimmer who happens to subscribe to Spotify, the leaked Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro might be a better fit. The unannounced device has been scooped up by and what’s being shown is a device that makes a few meaningful changes to appeal to more hardcore athletes.

Compared to the core version, the Pro appears to rock a very similar build – the exception being the bezels on its sides. They appear to hug the edges of the device more closely, perhaps in an effort to better align with the look of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

The Pro difference

While most of what sets the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro apart lies beneath the surface, there do appear to be some key differences that you’ll notice right away.

First off, the silicon band will come in two different stylings, including a notched design, and an abstract angular option. The Pro looks to be available in all black or a black and red combo, unlike the core Gear Fit 2 that came in more subdued colors.

Next is the secure clasp around its back. The original’s mechanism worked well enough for us during the testing phase of our review, though a traditional latch will ensure that it doesn’t pop off during a workout.

Once we jump inside of the rumored device, the Pro is said to have enhanced water-proofing measures in place to allow for total submersion. Additionally, this improved wearable will reportedly come with the ability to play Spotify offline built-in.

A few things we don’t know regarding this new Samsung wearable are its price and release date. Given the imminent launch of the Note 8, it would make sense for the Pro to launch alongside. That is, unless it launches alongside of the rumored Samsung Gear Sport, Samsung Gear S4 or the mysterious hybrid wearable that is said to be on the way.
